I have recently purchased your RS Data Extension, but am experiencing similar issues to those of other users who have posted on this forum.
I have separate Sharepoint Server, Reporting Services Server (2005) and Development Boxes. The Development Box hosts the Report Designer under Visual Studio 2005. Having installed the Extension on my development box I am able to connect to the Sharepoint server and retrieve data sets, however, I am unable to run the reports directly from the development server. I receive an error along the lines of:
Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Cultuer=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.
I have deployed the same report along with it's Shared Data Source to the report server. Upon running the report from here I get the same error message.
I am positive, after reading through all of the posts on this subject, that I have deployed the DLLs in the right directories and also amended the .config files correctly. I am trying to use Windows Authentication. All of the machines are in the same domain and I am executing the report using an account which has access to the Sharepoint server.
I have tried many combinations of credentials on the shared data source both on the development box and on the report server to no avail.
Can you please confirm what exactly is the recommended way of configuring the data sources and the current state of any known bugs in this area. The posts I have seen sometimes contradict each other and it is not clear what the current situation is.

Hello, Thanks for purchasing Enesys RS Data Extension.
I'm a bit confused. Do you mean you can run the query in the data view without being able to preview the report in the Report designer? Or do you mean you have a development report server as well as a production report server?
Are you trying to run a report provided with the samples or a report you've built?
Regards,

Hi Frederic,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I'll explain the server situation a bit more thoroughly.
We have a company Sharepoint server which we use for all of our internal collaboration. This is running Sharepoint 2003 and is a Windows 2003 Server machine.
Along side the SP server we have a separate dedicated Reporting Services server which is also running Windows 2003 and Reporting Services 2005.
These are the two primary servers.
I have my own development machine running Windows XP (SP2) which is merely hosting the SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio. It is not running a full installation of SQL Server 2005 or Reporting Services Server.
I have installed the RS Data Extension on my development machine and also on the dedicated Reporting Server machine.
Whilst developing my own fresh report on my development machine I am able to create a DataSet in the Data View and query data directly from lists on the SharePoint server. At this point everything looks fine. However, when I place elements of this dataset onto a Table in the Layout designer and then try and preview the report it fails with the error I reported previously.
If I compile the report and deploy it to the dedicated Report Server it also fails with the same error.
I hope that clarifies the situation.
I guess for now we can just concentrate on why the development machine fails to preview the report. I suspect that solving this issue will lead to a solution on the dedicated server as well.
Regards Paul Marsh.

Hi Paul, Indeed, that clarifies the situation. That is a very strange problem I haven't yet encountered.
I suppose that you have tried a very simple report for test purposes. If not, could you try to write a very basic query (involving only one SharePoint list) and build a very simple report from that query (one table control and one field) so that we can confirm that the problem is not tied to any specific report item but merely a config problem.
Could you also try to change the Shared Datasource credentials (setting for instance a specific account and password). It should not have any impact as running the query in the data view uses the same credential as running the report in the preview pane. Be aware that the new credentials won't be taken into account unless you close and open the report again.
You may already know this but running the report in the preview pane will use cached data if it is available (running the query in the data panel will always retrieve data from the datasource - sharepoint list in that case). I have found situations where the cached data was not in synch and causing errors when running a report from the preview pane. Deleting the cached data (data is cached in a file using the same name as the report with a ".data" extension - eg: myreport.rdl.data) or simply using the refresh button will force data to be retrieved from the data source.
Strangely enough, the error reported is typically an error that would happen in a report server environment and not on a "report designer" environment where data extensions are supposed to have full permissions by default.
If none of those informations could help to go further, could you send me your config files at support@enesys.fr so that I can have a look at them. Regards,
Frederic LATOUR
