We are pleased to announce that Enesys RS Data Extension version 3 Preview is available for download.

New features

We have already published various articles about the  new features available in this version. For further information you can refer to:

Installation

This version is provided as an MSI package that will install all the necessary files and optionally configure your BIDS (visual studio report designer) installation so that you can build a report over your SharePoint data as soon as you have finished the installation. Note that the server side installation (not necessary for building and previewing a report) is still a manual process that is straightforward and clearly documented. If you would like more information about the installation, you can read the dedicated chapter available in the documentation.

This version can be installed side by side with the current version 2. After installation and configuration a new data source type named "Enesys SharePoint Data Extensions 2008" will be available. Therefore, you can run reports using different versions by setting the data source type to either "Enesys SharePoint Data Extension" or "Enesys SharePoint Data Extensions 2008". The following screen shot illustrates an installation with both versions installed:

Query builder

This version includes also a preview of Enesys SharePoint Query builder, a tool for designing queries visually. Though we haven't a documentation yet for "Enesys SharePoint Query builder", we have prepared two video showing how to get started with the query builder.

Enesys SharePoint Query Builder has some limitations in the current version:

  • It does not handle parameters in a query. This is not completely blocking as it is always possible to use real values and replace the value by a parameter in the report designer once you have copied the query automatically generated by the query designer.
  • SqlQuery statements are not designed visually though you can use such a statement in the designer. You need to enter the desired SQL Select statement.
  • Some CAML query particularities are not yet handled (<today>, ...).
  • The following statement are not available: listCollection, listPermissions, webPermissions, webGroups.

Let us know what you think of this tool.

We are hoping you will be pleased with the features available in this version.
